Metrohm’s online system measures the following components in nearly any sample matrix: Hg, Cu, Sb, Zn, Ni, Co, Fe, Cd, Pb and As and can be installed outdoors, exposed to weather conditions, if needed.
More often than not measuring heavy metal concentrations online in a process can be particularly challenging.
This is especially the case when the sample contains several metals that interfere with each other during the measurement.
Measuring multiple dissolved and total metals online simultaneously
Metrohm Australia has developed a new revolutionary way to measure heavy metals in processes or in wastewater streams 24/7.
The first heavy metal analyser using the new technology was installed in Australia in June 2016.
Metrohm Heavy Metal Online Analyser is non-toxic and inexpensive: it does not use any toxic mercury or expensive gases.
In theory, the analyser will work many months without any human assistance.
However, we still recommend performing the visual checklist once every week – which takes around 5 minutes at the time.
Alternative analysis techniques
In the laboratory, interference-free analysers systems such as ICPMS and AAS do work well.
Their implementation into an online process measuring system is usually not practicable due to exceedingly high running costs. Maintenance requirements are also excessive when used 24/7. Not to mention the great costs of the Argon gas used.
Multiple heavy metals in multiple sample streams
The Metrohm Heavy Metal Online Analyser can measure multiple heavy metals in multiple sample streams. The analyser can determine both dissolved metals and total metals. The required digestion to break down compounded metals is fully automated and integrated into the system. The digestion is ordinarily performed according to EPA regulations. Aqua regia can also be used.
Weatherproof
The analyser can be installed outdoor, exposed to weather conditions or directly at the processing plant as shown in the overleaf image.
