As populations increase, the demand for clean water increases. Treatment of water allows the use of water sources that were previously considered unfit for human consumption. Whether removing salt in desalination plants, or removing bacteria and micro-organisms in ground water, treatment processes have come a long way.

Testing these water sources is a full time process, with ion analysis of anions, cations and oxyhalides an important component. Ion chromatography (IC) is the reference method for anion and oxyhalide analysis, while it can often provide a low cost option for cation analysis too.

As those who have operated an IC before will attest, all sample for IC require filtration. Filtering samples individually is expensive, both in the cost of filters and in staff time. Metrohm provide a simple, convenient solution with in-line filtration. Due to the patented design of the filter, one filter can analyse upwards of 100 samples, a massive saving when compared to individual filters.
